Talented writers win Sheffield short story competition and receive Henderson's goodies

Competing in the 2020 Sheffield Short Story Competition, sponspored by Henderson's Relish, author Anne Thompson took top spot with her piece entitled The Aerodynamics of Pigeons.
Organised by Sheffield Libraries, in collaboration with Sheffield Authors, this year’s event took place on-line where short-listed stories were read out. It was open to anyone over the age of 16, who lives or works in the city.

Hide AdThe theme was a story with a true Sheffield flavour and a real sense of place.
In addition to the Sheffield Short Story Competition, this year there was a special "Magic Pen" competition for people with learning disabilities.
This was won by Daniel Thistlethwaite with his story called The History of Sheffield and the Day I met my Girlfriend.
Both winners got £100 book tokens and Henderson's merchandise. There were also some Hendersons goodies for runners-up.
Sheffield Authors was formed in 2015.

Hide AdA spokesman said: “Anyone who self-identifies as a Sheffield Author is welcome to apply to become a member. We want this to be a place readers can visit to support local talent, and be assured that the books they find here are of sufficient merit. For that reason we have a rule that at least two existing members must vet a new application.
“We want to provide a useful source of information to anyone who is interested in Sheffield and its literature/writers.”
