Flint looked like an excellent signing for the Owls back in October, slotting straight into Garry Monk’s side as he immediately looked at home in the heart of their defence.
But sadly for both the player and club, the 31-year-old picked up a serious injury in his fourth game and was then ruled out for a significant amount of time after requiring surgery on his hamstring.

With hindsight it could be suggested that Wednesday were too hasty in cutting short the defender’s loan, however The Star understands that it was a decision made based on the severity of the injury lay-off, the break clause in the loan that meant they only had a short amount of time to make their decision, and also the money saved by terminating early.
There would likely have been a chance to bring Flint back to Hillsborough in the January transfer window following his impressive return to fitness, however McCarthy had him back in the starting XI by January 27th and he’s gone on to play 10 more Championship games since then.
