"They'd be out of a job": Josh Windass slams Wigan Athletic after Sheffield Wednesday move

Speaking to the media for the first time since his permanent move across the Pennines, Windass reflected on what he described as a difficult time at the Lancashire club, having joined the Owls in what was a quickly-put-together loan move back in January.
Both he and former Latics boss Paul Cook have since kept their counsel on what was perceived to be a fall-out at the club.

“Obviously people have their own opinions, the fans and the club or whatever, but the bottom line is that I trained every single day and dedicated myself every single day to play football to the best of my ability.
“People around me I don't feel did that, so there was a couple of words said. But I can never question myself, my dedication to train and play well every single day. Obviously I wasn't able to put across my best performances every time, but I know I worked as hard as I could.”
Awaiting the green light on what became a protracted transfer, Windass was told he was not allowed to train with Wigan and instead prepared for the season alone at a sports facility close to his home in West Yorkshire.

“Luckily the gaffer trusted me here to get myself in good shape and involved me last week even after only a couple of days training. With the work I've put in, hopefully that will keep me in good stead pushing forward.”
