Both Garry Monk and Carlos Carvalhal preferred to give the day off before travelling to away games later in the day.

It's all in preparation for the Boxing Day trip to Coventry City, where the Owls will seek to bounce back from the disappointment of their 2-1 defeat to Cardiff City on Saturday. The Sky Blues left Sunderland with an impressive 3-0 win. The Coventry Building Society Arena has been something of a fortress for them in what has been a relatively frustrating campaign so far; they have lost only once there, though six draws have arrived in their 11 home matches.
