Neil Thompson for Sheffield Wednesday manager? – Liam Shaw would be happy with him
‘Thommo’ has been at the club for the best part of a decade, working his way up the coaching ranks to his current position as caretaker manager following the decision to fire Tony Pulis.
Two games later, Thompson has led the Owls out of the relegation zone with back-to-back home victories, and Shaw – who knows him well having worked with him through the academy – has given his backing to the 57-year-old.

Hide AdShaw has been a star performer for Wednesday over the last two matches, scoring the winner against Middlesbrough before putting in a Man of the Match performance in last night’s victory over Derby County.
Speaking after the Rams victory, the 19-year-old gave his backing to Thompson, telling the media, "That's obviously out of our control. It's up to the chairman but I would be happy with him. He’s been really good, taken the shackles off really and told us to play positive. Attack as a team, defend as a team. Most importantly, he wants us to be positive and have a go rather than sit in and lose.
"If everyone has a go and gives it a go, I think that is a better way to play football.
"He has been with me since the U18s and the U23s. He knows me really well so it is nice to have someone like that who knows what you can do and knows you inside out… It’s really nice to have that.”
