Third at Christmas, 15th in the middle of March, the Owls’ season has taken a nosedive of epic proportions.
And with the coronavirus suspension likely to rumble on weeks beyond the current April 5 schedule, that 5-0 reversal at Brentford could be freshest in the memory for some time.
But the good times have well and truly rolled at points this season. Let’s take a look a five good and five bad in 2019/20.
1. GOOD - Brighton (A)
Little was expected of Wednesday on their trip to the south coast for FA Cup third round action. But Premier League Brighton were sent packing in a match the Owls thoroughly deserved to win - Adam Reach bagging a deflected winner. GOOD RATING - 3* Photo: Bryn Lennon
2. BAD - Blackburn Rovers (H)
Nobody quite saw it coming. Blackburn were in awful form with injuries to key players. Wednesday were on the turn, but confident after wins at Leeds and Brighton. Massimo Luongo's red card was a big moment, but the Owls rolled over.. BAD RATING - 5* Photo: Steve Ellis.
3. GOOD - Middlesbrough (A)
Another fine away performance saw a blistering start blow Boro away at the Riverside. An aerial bombardment from the Owls saw Steven Fletcher at his bullying best and Garry Monk walk away from his old stomping ground with a rye smile. GOOD RATING - 4* Photo: Steve Ellis
4. BAD - Derby (H)
Wayne Rooney ran the midfield, Chris Martin dominated the pockets and Tom Lawrence bagged a brace. Wednesday, on the other hand, were passive, 3-0 down at half-time and in freefall. A second half improvement was worth little.. BAD RATING - 3* Photo: Steve Ellis
