The cash-strapped Lancashire club, who are in the hands of receivers having been placed into administration last month, are also believed to have accepted bids from ‘at least one other club’ for the 26-year-old forward.
The Star revealed earlier this week that the Owls had had an earlier bid rejected by Wigan. It has been known that Windass has been among the club’s top targets for some time.

Hide AdWindass, who spent the latter stages of last season on loan at Wednesday, scored three times in nine appearances for the Owls at a goals-per-minute rate of better than a goal every other game. A move would reunite the versatile forward with his former Accrington Stanley boss James Beattie, who last week joined the club as assistant manager.
He is believed to be one of the top earners at Wigan, who in the administrator’s attempts to reduce the club’s wage bill have cleared the decks of several senior players including Owls new boy Chey Dunkley, who signed at S6 on a free transfer last week.
With the Owls season set to start with a Carabao Cup trip to Walsall in just 15 days, Jordan Rhodes is the only senior striker on their books. It is believed that West Brom forward Jonathan Leko is also on the radar of Owls boss Garry Monk, along with last season’s loanee Alessio Da Cruz.
Asked about the Windass’ Owls future in June, Monk said: “We will have to see at the end of this period of games where we are at and what we can do. We will have those conversations possibly.

The club will enter negotiations with the Yorkshire-born prospect in due course hoping that a 12-point deduction will not stand against them as Monk continues to rebuild the squad.
