The Blades turned in a superb first half performance but were unable to turn their dominance into goals and were then caught out shortly after the break when Paddy Madden opened the scoring for The Iron.
However Billy Sharp had United quickly back on level terms with his 21st goal of the season.

Hide AdHarry Toffolo was sent off for the visitors and Sheffield United pressed for the winner with John Fleck, Billy Sharp and Caolan Lavery all going close.
Madden hit the post for Scunthorpe late on before Jay O'Shea did the same for the Blades.
"It was excellent from the supporter point of view. They gave us the platform to produce a positive performance and we did that," said Wilder.
"We're disappointed not to come in ahead. We took a blow with their goal which caught us cold but the reaction was first class. We drove the game forward, the keeper made a few saves, hit the post. The last little bit was possibly not as good as we have been, but players gave me everything, the supporters are giving the players everything and I don't think we can be down about today."
