The main burst was at the junction between Meadowhall Road and Amos Road, forcing Yorkshire Water to close the road at around 15.55 on Monday afternoon.
Confused commuters have faced gridlocked traffic as they are directed down a diversion along Meadowhall Way, which is often already busy due traffic caused by shoppers in the Christmas rush.

Yorkshire Water said: “We understand that the road closure and diversion is inconvenient to businesses and shoppers alike and are working to reduce the disruption to a minimum whilst ensuring the repairs are carried out correctly in line with current highway specifications.”
This morning Yorkshire Water announced that they are ‘aiming’ to have the road back open by tomorrow morning (Thursday December 19), hopefully bringing an end to commuter misery.
