The EU is not corrupt
The EU exists to promote the well-being of its citizens and legislation has to be agreed by elected governments and the elected European Parliament.
Its economic policies reflect the electoral choices of its member states in both national and European elections.

Hide AdUnfortunately, our own current government is one of its more reactionary members, blocking, for example, efforts to protect our steel industry from Chinese “dumping”.
What the Left (letter June 10) need to do is mobilise with sister parties across the EU to elect progressive governments to reinvigorate the progressive legislation from the EU which has brought benefits, particularly to ordinary people.
The very wealthy backers of the Leave campaign want to destroy workers’ rights and environmental and consumer protection, and get out of an organisation which is seeking ways of tackling cross-border tax evasion.
They have for weeks repeated lies about funding for the NHS, used scare tactics over immigration, and have no coherent plans for life outside the EU.

Hide AdThat is why the Labour and Trade Union movement is urging an IN vote, to ensure that we remain in to improve the EU, not destroy all the progress made in securing peace and cooperation for more than half a century.
