Sheffield resident heard "shouting and loud voices" moments before man was stabbed near his home in broad day light

Armed police rushed to the scene in Holbourne Grove, High Green, after reports that a man had been knifed at 11am yesterday morning.

A man who lives on the street and gave a witness statement to police said: "I was in the garden when I heard loads of shouting and loud voices.

"I didn't see the actual attack but I saw all of the police afterwards. It's a nice, quiet street so it is worrying."

He added: "I have lived here for more than 30 years and you used to see more bobbies on the beat. I know there has been cut backs but having a police officer out patrolling is a really good deterrent."

A 36-year-old man was arrested over the incident a short while after police pulled over a taxi on Halifax Road, Grenoside. The victim was taken to hospital with minor injuries. Call police on 101.
