Rotherham United: Warne tips Millers to move faster in boss hunt

Caretaker manager Paul Warne says he expects Rotherham United to step up their search for a new boss after his first Championship game in temporary charge ended in defeat.

Fitness coach Warne, who has made it clear he doesn’t want the job on a permanent basis, watched his side lose 2-1 at Burton Albion as the gap between the bottom-placed Millers and safety widened to 13 points.

“Three days ago I said I didn’t want to do the job full-time and, surprisingly, a defeat today has done nothing to change my mind on that front,” he said.

“I think had I won the game there would have been a wave of euphoria and the rush for a new manager wouldn’t have been as great.

“But after a loss the chairman (Tony Stewart) will probably want to move quickly and I fully understand and agree with that.”

Warne was an emotional figure after the game at the Pirelli Stadium and said he wouldn’t sleep tonight.

“I gave everything I had. I did everything I could,” he said.
