Police officer death: Everything we know about fatal collision in Sheffield

- PC Matt Lannie died in a collision on Nether Lane, Ecclesfield, at around 1pm on Tuesday, April 21.
- His marked police motorcycle was involved in a crash with a Toyota Avensis, which was driven by a 64-year-old man.

Hide Ad- PC Lannie was pronounced dead a short time after the collision, while the Avensis driver was taken to hospital with minor injuries.
- PC Lannie was on-duty and responding to reports of a silver BMW failing to stop for officers at the time of the crash.
- Numerous emergency services vehicles were deployed in the aftermath of the collision and Nether Lane was closed for hours for crash scene investigation work to be carried out.
- The investigation into the incident remains ongoing and witnesses and anyone with dashcam footage is urged to come forward.

Hide Ad- South Yorkshire Police said specialist officers are supporting PC Lannie’s family and the driver of the Avensis.
- PC Lannie was a specialist police motorcycle officer in South Yorkshire’s roads policing unit.
- Before joining the roads team he was a response officer in Sheffield.
- Chief Constable Stephen Watson described him as ‘very popular’ and said he would be ‘greatly missed’.
