Young Sheffield wrestler, aged nine, celebrates his sixth gold medal win this year

Amir Abakarov won his first gold medal of the year in March at the Northern Region closed competition, then in April he took gold again at the English Junior Championship.
In September, he went on to win a gold medal at the SLAM competition 2019, followed by a gold at the Derbyshire Open 2019.

Hide AdLast month, he took home a gold medal again at the British Junior Championship 2019, a title he previously won in 2018.
Just weeks later, he won his sixth gold medal at the Aspull Warriors fourth international competition.
Proud dad Sabir said: “He has made us very proud again by winning the British Junior Championship for a second time in a row, but this time under different weight category. We are so happy for his achievements and very excited about his future.”
Amir trains at Sheffield Wrestling Academy as often as he can, under the guidance of international professional coach Alibek Vechedov.

Hide AdPosting on his Instagram page after his latest win, Amir said: “I had some tough matches and I am very happy for that. Last year I won under 25KG, this year under 27KG. Thank you to my coach Alibek Vechedov.”
Amir, who started wrestling when he was six-years-old, comes from a line of wrestlers. Sabir also used to be a wrestler.
