And it is no wonder that many have grabbed the opportunity to share their pictures of the red sky on social media, as they marvelled at the gorgeous sight.
Kelly Higginbottom was one of the early ones to have captured the phenomenon near Sheffield Children’s Hospital and shared it on her Instagram page @kels800.

The pictures of red sky were also shared by several Twitter users, who were left in awe by the stunning view.
But be warned, it is more to the sky than meets the eye.
According to the Met Office, a red sky appears when dust and small particles are trapped in the atmosphere by high pressure.
The scatters blue light leave only red light to give the sky its notable appearance.

This also means that the good weather has passed, most likely making way for a wet and windy-low pressure system.
And this seems to be the case for Sheffield on Thursday as it braces for a cloudy and windy day, with rain predicted during the late afternoon and evening.
Friday morning will also be cloudy with periods of rain but it will be drier during the afternoon and evening with predicted strong winds before moving on to a bright start on Saturday.
