It is unclear whether the store is closing down for good or relocating.
One Twitter user said: “What a ridiculous decision to suddenly put up STORE CLOSING signs without any official word. Well, that’s me going 100 per cent Amazon in future.”
Another added: “MY LOCAL HMV IS CLOSING I REPEAT THE HMV IN MEADOWHALL IS CLOSING THIS IS DISGUSTING.”

The branch was saved from closure in February after the chain was bought by Doug Putman, who runs the Canadian retailer Sunrise Records.
The chain was facing administration and the immediate closure of 27 stores, leading to 455 job losses.
A spokesperson for Meadowhall said: “At the present time we have no further information on HMV”.
The store on Sheffield’s High Street remains open, with signs in the window reading “#HMVisopen”.
