These photos, taken by reader Robert Dinwoodie, capture the moment that the moon moved across the face of the sun, without blocking it completely.
This kind of eclipse is known as an annular eclipse.
Photographer Robert said: “It was very cloudy but was lucky enough for a few breaks in the clouds.”

Hide AdAround 20 per cent of the sun was covered by the moon shortly between 11.15 and 11.30am, however in more northern parts of the world there was even more obscured.
In the UK, the best place to see the eclipse was in the far north of Scotland, near the Shetland Islands. Up there, close to 40 per cent of the sun was eclipsed by the moon.
