A 49-year-old man has been put behind bars over a vicious and 'horrific' attack at a Sheffield taxi rank which continued even after his victim was knocked out, leaving him with no memory of the assault.

Following a British Transport Police investigation, Andrew Ford, of White Thorns View, Batemoor, Sheffield, was jailed for 36 weeks by Sheffield magistrates on Tuesday, June 27, 2023 after he pleaded guilty to actual bodily harm.

The court heard how, on Thursday 30 March, Ford and another man were fighting near the taxi rank outside Sheffield railway station when Ford threw his victim to the ground and straddled him before repeatedly punching him in the head and headbutting him several times.

When his victim became lifeless, Ford continued the savage attack, raining punches on his head.

Ford was arrested shortly afterwards and made no comment throughout his police interview.

Investigating officer, Sergeant Roy Percival, of British Transport Police, said: "This was a horrific and sustained attack on someone who was clearly unable to defend himself. Ford's actions have rightly landed him in jail where he will hopefully have time to consider his behaviour."
