School releases statement after Sheffield pupil in hijab attacked on bus

A spokesperson said: “We are aware of an incident that has happened outside of school where it appears that some of our students have suffered abuse from members of the public.
“We are supporting the students and their families in any way needed.

Mobile phone footage of the city centre incident yesterday has been shared online and appears to show a woman on a 88 single decker service bus, bound for Ecclesfield, embroiled in a row with a group of students.
In one part of the video the woman can been seen on top of the girl as they are both on the ground.
A 40-year-old woman and a 44-year-old man have been arrested in connection with the incident.

Hide AdSouth Yorkshire Police said: “Police were called at 4.05pm on Wednesday, December 4 to the Nursery Tavern on Ecclesall Road, Sheffield, following reports of racial abuse. A man and a woman were asked to leave the premises.
“A short time later, at 4.30pm, a further report was received of an altercation on a bus travelling along Ecclesall Road towards the city centre between the same man and woman and other individuals on the bus.
“All parties reportedly got off the bus on Ecclesall Road, where a 14-year-old girl was assaulted.”
The victim reportedly had to go to hospital, where she was treated for a suspected fractured eye socket.
