A motorist who was spotted “drifting” across the road by police was driving at nearly twice the drink-drive limit.

Sheffield Magistrates’ Court heard on January 23 how Gemma Irek, 35, of Duke Street, Mosborough, who has a medical profession, was seen drifting in the road in Sheffield city centre on December 21.

Prosecuting solicitor Robert Coyne said police saw a Ford C-Max on Rockingham Street clip a kerb and as it turned onto Charter Row the vehicle was drifting back-and-forth across the carriageway before it was stopped on Moor Street.

Irek pleaded guilty to exceeding the alcohol drink-drive limit after registering 67 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath when the limit is 35 microgrammes.

The defendant, who told magistrates she was sorry, was fined £200 and must pay a £32 victim surcharge and £85 costs. She was also disqualified from driving for 17 months.
