Police sniffer dog finds Class A drugs at Sheffield railway station

The specialist dog detected illicit substances among those in the crowds at the station last Saturday and those caught all received police cautions.
A total of 18 people were stopped and searched as part of Operation Sidewinder, which involved a high number of police officers patrolling Sheffield city centre and station on foot in a chain formation.

Hide AdThe idea is that the formation looks striking and makes it easier to identify those obviously trying to avoid officers.
Inspector John Mallows said: “This is a new way of working when it comes to policing our night time economy.
“There is a known link between the use and supply of Class A drugs and violence in our bars and clubs and for this reason we are always looking for new ways to tackle this problem.”
