Police reassure residents over stabbings on same Sheffield street

The first ‘targeted’ attack happened on Lyons Street, Pitsmoor at around 5pm on Saturday (July 4).
A 21-year-old man was seriously injured in the incident and remains in hospital in a stable condition.

Hide AdLess than a week later this morning (Friday, July 10) there was a second knife attack on Lyons Road which adjoins Lyons Street.
It happened just after midnight and saw a 54-year-old man present at Northern General Hospital with stab wounds.
He remains in hospital in a ‘serious but stable’ condition.
Police have arrested a 32 year-old man on suspicion of attempted murder in connection to the incident on Lyons Road.

Hide AdDetective Inspector Ben Wood, of South Yorkshire Police, said: “We are carrying out enquiries into this incident and you may see more officers than usual in the Burngreave area today as we speak to local people near to the scene.
“This is the second incident in this location in the last seven days, I understand this may be concerning to residents. I want to assure you our investigation is continuing at pace and that we have neighbourhood officers in the area for your reassurance.”
Det Insp Wood added that the force did not believe the incidents were connected.
“We are urging anyone with information about this incident to contact us as we try to piece together what happened,” he said.
"Please call 101 quoting incident number 4 of 10 July.”
