Police probe into murder continues after fight in Sheffield city centre

Detectives believe the 26-year-old, who was found unconscious at the junction of Union Street and Charles Street in the early hours of Tuesday, had been involved in a fight.

Hide AdEmergency services were called at 3.30am and found the man slumped in the street but despite attempts to revive him he could not be saved and was pronounced dead at the scene.
A post mortem examination revealed he died from a head injury.
Detective Chief Inspector Mark Oughton, of South Yorkshire Police, said: “Our enquiries are progressing at speed as we work to establish the circumstances of this man’s death.
“We believe that prior to his death, the 26-year-old man was involved in a fight with someone who was known to him, I would like to reassure the public that there is no wider risk to the community following this incident.

Hide Ad“My priority at this time is to hear from anyone who might have been in the Union Street area of the city centre between 1.20am and 1.40am on Tuesday morning.
“Did you witness a fight between two people, hear a disturbance or witness anything suspicious?”
