Police officer remains under investigation over use of baton on Sheffield Wednesday fan

The officer is the subject of a criminal investigation by the Independent Office for Police Conduct after the incident was referred to the police watchdog by South Yorkshire Police bosses.
He is also the subject of an investigation into gross misconduct.

Hide AdMobile phone footage shared online showed a police officer striking a 16-year-old Sheffield Wednesday fan over his head, leaving him covered in blood, after the Owls played Barnsley FC away at Oakwell on Saturday, February 8.
Police officers were monitoring fans at the time as they made their way from the football ground towards the transport interchange in the town.
The officer is still working for South Yorkshire Police but has been placed on restricted duties pending the outcome of the IOPC’s criminal and misconduct investigations.
