Police issue statement and murder inquiry launched after man found dead in Sheffield

The 54-year-old man was found on Brimmesfield Close, in Arbourthorne, after emergency services were called just before 1.45am today, Tuesday, January 21.
Police said he was pronounced dead shortly after and a post-mortem examination is set to be carried out later today to establish the cause of death.

Hide AdA 39-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and remains in police custody.
A cordon is in place at the scene, which is close to where a 12-year-old boy was injured in a drive-by shooting on Northern Avenue on Sunday, January 12.
In the wake of that attack, the estate has been flooded by police officers and four arrests have been made in connection with the shooting.
Police are describing the 54-year-old’s death as ‘suspicious’ but say it is not being connected at this stage to other incidents in the area.

Hide AdTemporary Detective Chief Inspector Mark Oughton said: “Officers from within the Major Crime Unit are working closely with detectives in Sheffield to establish the exact circumstances surrounding this man’s death.
“There is currently a cordon outside the flats while officers continue with enquiries and speak to potential witnesses. At this moment in time, this incident is not being connected to any other investigations in that area.
“A 39-year-old man is currently in custody, assisting us with our enquiries in relation to this investigation and I’d like to ask anyone who saw or heard anything unusual in the area last night to contact us.

Hide AdFollowing the shooting, police chiefs vowed to continue stop and search checks on the estate for the foreseeable future, and armed officers have been involved in patrols.
