Residents fed up with the noise from an illegal gathering in the Hillsborough area reported the New Year’s Eve party to South Yorkshire Police via the force’s online reporting system last night.
When the noise continued into the early hours, they dialled 101 and spoke to a police call handler, who informed them that officers had already visited the property after the earlier complaint.

One resident, who does not wish to be named, said South Yorkshire Police’s policy for dealing with reports of Covid breaches needs to be explained.
“It may be that fines were issued and those at the party just did not care and carried on regardless,” the resident said.
“But if it turns out that officers visited and just issued advice then you have to question why they are asking people to report breaches if they are not going to take any action.”

Party-goers were still at the house at 10am today.
The resident who reported them said: “We aren’t seeing our friends and family and then you get people like this who are going to plunge us into Tier 4 by not following the rules.”
Earlier today, South Yorkshire Police revealed that officers from the city centre neighbourhood policing team issued over seventy fixed penalty notices to people caught at an illegal New Year’s Eve party in a flat.
Under Tier 3 coronavirus rules people are not allowed to mix indoors with anyone from outside of their household unless they are part of a support bubble.
People can mix in groups of six in some outdoor spaces.
South Yorkshire Police has been contacted for a comment.
