Man and woman arrested by South Yorkshire Police over baby death remain on bail

They were arrested over the death of a four-month-baby girl from Athersley, Barnsley, who was taken to hospital with ‘catastrophic injuries’ on May 16, 2020 and never recovered.
South Yorkshire Police said the baby’s life support was withdrawn on Monday, September 14.

Hide AdA 31-year-old woman and a 38-year-old man, both from Athersley, were arrested on suspicion of murder and later bailed pending further enquiries.
Detective Chief Inspector Phil Etheridge, the senior investigating officer, said at the time of their arrest that the baby was two days old when she suffered the injuries which resulted in her death.
He said there was a ‘dedicated team of officers’ assigned to the investigation.
