Grimesthorpe Road fire: Sheffield arson attack leaves van ablaze on estate this morning

The incident, which happened on Grimesthorpe Road, Grimesthorpe, was one of several which were started by arsonists last night, with two more fires being started near Beighton, earlier in the evening.
South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service said they sent a fire engine from Central Fire Station in Sheffield city centre to tbe Grimesthorpe Road blaze, and confirmed the vehicle was believed to have been deliberately set alight. They said the crew was on the scene for 50 minutes putting the flames out and clearing up.

Hide AdEarlier, firefighters from Aston fire station had been sent out to deal with a deliberate rubbish fire at 8.20pm on Rotherham Road, Beighton, although they were only there for 15 minutes putting it out. Shortly afterwards at 11.45pm another fire crew from Central Fire Station were sent back to the same road in Beighton to deal with another deliberately started rubbish fire.
Firefighters in Sheffield are urging people to use an arson hotline to pass on information about deliberate fires Last year. officers revealed they dealt with a total of 3,945 arson attacks in 2020, with 787 in Sheffield, 989 in Barnsley, 1,053 in Rotherham and 1,116 in Doncaster.
