Detectives launched the probe after a man was critically injured in an attack on Windy House Lane, Manor, just before midnight.
Despite the efforts of paramedics to save the 42-year-old victim, he could not be revived and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Hide AdThe crime scene was cordoned off and enquiries were launched into the circumstances surrounding the murder.
A 49-year-old man was later arrested and remains in police custody.
Police officers remain at the crime scene piecing together exactly what happened.
Officers are carrying out CCTV analysis from cameras in and around the crime scene and door-to-door enquiries are being carried out in the neighbourhood.

“I understand how shocking this incident will have been to you. Please know that our enquiries continue at pace and we have a dedicated team working tirelessly on the investigation, carrying out CCTV analysis and conducting door-to-door enquiries.
“Our neighbourhood officers will be carrying out additional patrols to provide reassurance. If you see our officers out on patrol, please do go and speak to them, they are there to help and support you.
