Residents in a Sheffield street are ‘frightened and worried’ after reports of a shooting.

Details have not yet been released by South Yorkshire Police but residents claim there was a shooting in the street outside business premises used by an accountancy firm.

One woman this morning said the street is eerily quiet, with residents all remaining indoors while police officers carry out crime scene enquiries.

Detectives were seen arriving earlier and are understood to be checking whether any CCTV cameras in the area captured the incident or those involved.

One woman, who asked not to be named, said: “Even throughout lockdown there would normally be people in the street either walking to the local shops or exercising but there is nobody out at all this morning and lots of curtains have remained closed.

“It is frightening and worrying to hear about a shooting in a street like this.

“There is a feeling of a drug and gang problem in the area but you would normally expect any issues like that to be in the back streets not in a residential street like this.

“It is worrying that there was another shooting just a mile away yesterday too.”

Last night’s reported shooting, if confirmed by the police today, would mean there were three gun attacks in the city yesterday.

Three men were shot when a gun was fired as they stood together in Grimesthorpe Road, Burnrgeave, just after midnight yesterday.

And at 2am that same morning, a 53-year-old man was shot in Club Garden Road, Sharrow.

All four men were taken to hospital with gunshot wounds but their injuries are not believed to be life threatening.

No arrests have yet been made over the first two shootings.

Witnesses or anyone with information about those involved in any of the incidents are urged to come forward.
