Rother Valley Country Park makes big change to parking charges - and lots of people are delighted
The flat fee of £5 has been replaced by a new sliding scale, with the price ranging from £1 for up to an hour to £6 to stay all day.
The move follows concerns raised by nearby residents about the number of cars parked around the entrance to the popular beauty spot, which they claimed were posing a hazard to other motorists and pedestrians.

Under the new ticketless payment system, their number plate is recorded on entry and at the end of their visit motorists must enter their registration number and pay by cash or card before leaving.
The new charges are £1 for up to one hour, increasing by £1 for every additonal hour up to a maximum of £6 to stay the whole day.
The change has proved popular with many people commenting on the park’s Facebook page, where it was announced today.

Another person said the system was ‘much more accommodating’, and a third commented that it was ‘very reasonable and more inclusive for what people want such as quick run round or a full day there’.
Some people, however, expressed disappointment that it would now cost more to park for the day.
And others questioned what would happen for visitors taking part in the parkrun, who they said previously only had to pay £1.
