The S12 area, which includes Birley, Gleadless, Gleadless Townend, Frecheville, Hackenthorpe, Intake, Ridgeway, is within easy reach of the city centre and the shops at Crystal Peaks. It is also close to the countryside, so you'll be able to choose whether you want a day shopping in the hustle and bustle of the city or a relaxing day in the countryside.

Hide AdThe S12 area has parks and other green places that people of all ages can enjoy. A particularly popular spot to visit is Frecheville pond, where families can often be found enjoying a peaceful walk or feeding the ducks. Nearby Charnock Recreation Ground is a wheelchair friendly playground which has a good range of equipment suitable for children of all ages. There’s also Hollinsend Park, which is home to the Hollinsend Bowling Club and two greens. These places are also popular with dog walkers, as well as people who enjoy a leisurely stroll.
Historic buildings
Commonside farmhouse, which dates from around 1800, is a grade two listed building situated just off Gleadless Common. It been integrated into a new small housing development known as Commonside Croft.Christ Church on Hollinsend Road, Gleadless, is also a grade II listed building which dates from 1839 and includes a three-stage tower. There's also Birley Spa, a community bath hall and a Victorian bathhouse, and Greenside House, a grade two listed 18th century home, in the Hackenthorpe.
Sense of community
People in S12, like the rest of Sheffield, are really friendly. Neighbours take the time to get to know each other and check that they are okay. There are community centres, such as the Frecheville Community Centre and Hackenthorpe Community Centre, where various clubs and classes run for people of all ages and spaces can be booked for private events and parties.
