Dine out for less: Sheffield restaurant offers midweek diners a taste of the Mediterranean at 30% discount

That’s the claim at one restaurant in Hillsborough, which is offering such great midweek deals they say it works out cheaper than shopping and cooking for your family at home.

The 30 per cent discount at 2nd Girlfriend restaurant is going to run until summer and applies to all meals on the menu for diners eating on Tuesday and Wednesday nights.

This Mediterranean eatery will bring the flavours of summer to a winter’s night – and whist it’s a great place to celebrate a special occasion, with kids’ pizza and pasta dishes available from just £5 on discounted nights, it’s also a great value treat for all the family.

The 30 per cent reduction on Tuesday and Wednesday nights applies to dishes from the full menu – including starters and mains, even steaks and any specials – and the owner says is a great value way to try out the restaurant if you’ve not been before.

Chris Kamolli has already built up a regular customer base since the restaurant opened on Langsett Road, in 2021, and has an average score of 4.9 out of 5 on Google, with lots of five star reviews for the food, the ambiance and the service.

“Beautiful restaurant. Food is great and staff is so lovely. They play live songs around each table. Amazing vibe,” said one reviewer on Google.

Another wrote: “Practically flawless. Had the ancini I think it was for starters. Basically fried rice balls with cheese and ham inside could have gladly had like 6 more. Came with a salad with dressing and a bolognese sauce was excellent. Had lasagna that came in a sauce with chips and that was great as well. Also had a chocolate fudge cake that had a sauce and cream with it. Something like butterscotch I think in the cake and genuinely one of the best cakes I've ever had. I have severe food allergies and that was dealt with brilliantly. Reasonably priced as well. One of the best meals I've had out in a very, very long time. Definitely worth a look.”

Mediterranean flavours

There are not many places offering monkfish on the menu, but 2nd Girlfriend says this delicious fresh white fish dish has been a hit with customers.

The monkfish is served with linguine pasta in a sauce which includes black olives, chilli and prawns. Other popular dishes include the Greek Meatballs, which come with a Mediterranean-style gravy sauce, and the plate of grilled lamb chops with roasted peppers and beef risotto is also a firm favourite among diners.

There is a wide choice of pasta dishes, pizzas, fish dishes, risotto rice dishes, steaks and chicken dishes, and of course there are vegetarian and vegan options too plus tempting desserts and a good selection of wines.

With starters from £5.50 and main dishes around £15 the food is always good value, but the 30 per cent discount makes it exceptional – adults could have a pizza for around £8 or a pasta dish for £10 and a steak would only set you back £18.

Market fresh

Chris believes that fresh is best and is up with the birds to get to Sheffield markets from 6am to get the pick of the vegetables, fresh fish comes from Castle Market and meat, he says, is from local butchers in Hillsborough.

The restaurant gets its unusual name to convey the love and attention that is put into looking after customers – the business is like his 2nd Girlfriend!
