A YOUNG pony is now on the mend after surviving a potentially lethal illness.
Tilda the Shetland foal is cared for by Pat Hartley at Mill House Animal Sanctuary in Thurlstone.

When Tilda showed little sign of development and suffered a worrying nosebleed shortly after she was born, Pat rushed her to Minster Veterinary Practice in York where she was diagnosed with thrombocytopenia, a rare blood problem.

"I was absolutely beside myself," said Pat. "She had to have a blood transfusion it was that bad."

Despite being left with a £1,500 bill, Pat is glad to have Tilda back.

"She is absolutely fine now, it saved her life." she said.
