SHEFFIELD doctors are to start a debate about standards of care for the elderly at a national British Medical Association meeting.
On Wednesday, the Sheffield division will put forward two motions at the BMA's Annual Representative Meeting - the first asking for better end-of-life care and the second calling for tougher action on abuse.
They want the elderly to receive the same standard of care as a dying child wherever they are - whether that is at home or in hospital, nursing home or hospice.
The Sheffield division is also calling for the Department of Health to produce a document detailing the 'red flags' in abuse of the elderly cases similar to the information already available regarding child abuse.
